Congregational Assistance Program

Our Congregational Assistance Program (CAP) is a ministry that provides counseling services, life enrichment education and professional development opportunities for members of congregations and pastors through a contractual relationship with the Samaritan Counseling Center.

When your church is a member of the CAP program, your congregation is entitled to individual or family counseling at any of Samaritan's locations. They can also attend Samaritan led workshops - on topics of your choosing - at your church.

Though this program is new to us, it isn't new to Samaritan Centers in other states. They tell us that the ministers and churches who have participated in CAP are quite pleased with the results. Here's some of feedback:

  • CAP is more cost effective than establishing a new staff position with salary, benefits, etc.
  • It gives us an new extension of ministry in the community.
  • It provides a great referral source for counseling.
  • Pastors feel they have a partner with greater expertise in this aspect of pastoral care.
  • Church members feel that the church is giving its blessing for them to receive help at Samaritan.
  • Church members know that the church values their health: body, soul and mind.
  • It demonstrates that the pastor issues like: mental health, balancing work and home life, stress management, strong marriages, healthy family life, parenting, etc.
  • There are three levels of participation available:Comprehensive Level, Enhanced Level, and Basic Level. Costs associated with each program are based on the number of congregation members.

    All CAP levels include:

  • Scheduling priority for congregation's members.
  • Access to a trauma response team.
  • Access to support groups.
